Due to the high cost of the Camiro Pollinator Garden, we ran two events with the goal of raising money for construction.

In the spring of 2024, we created “seed bombs," a mixture of clay, compost, and seeds. These seed bombs use clay as a protective shell for compost which encourages the growth of seeds within. These simple balls can be thrown anywhere, and with just some rain they sprout beautifully.

Then during each lunch period, we sold these balls in the cafeteria, informed students about the critical situation of the Monarch Butterfly, and explained that planting these seed bombs filled with Milkweed Seeds creates habitats for the butterfly along with other pollinators. With this strategy, we sold over 200 seed bombs and raised $100 for the garden fund.

Then later that year, we switched from seed bombs to potted plants which we raised in our classroom using grow lamps. Selling at lunch we sold 50 plants and raised $250.

With this money along with the Youth Outdoor Equity Leadership Fund from Children and Nature Network, our garden is growing and is sure to soon bear fruit!
